This week is Thanksgiving, which means two things. Turkey trots and holiday shopping.
I was never a huge fan of going out to brick and mortar stores on Black Friday. When I was a kid, my mom and my sister woke me up to do that once or twice.
But I am a fan of catching a good deal online. These days, the deals start early in the week – before Thanksgiving – and continue later into the holiday season.
Last week, I shared some of the best deals on Amazon for Garmin watches. I still think the Fenix 7 Pro Solar is one of the best deals out there this year, and if you’re in the market for a watch … go snag one.
But today, I’m going to share a few other deals I spotted on Amazon – some big and some small. It might be something you’ve been thinking of splurging on, or it might be a little stocking stuffer for another runner in your family.
I’ll break it down into three categories – winter gear, regular running gear, and treadmills. Let’s get to it.
Winter Running Gear On Sale
With the temperature dropping, it’s time to make sure you’re stocked out with winter running gear. And if you’re like me, the holiday season is when you swap out the old stuff from last year for new stuff.
Gloves are a must have. For me, it’s the first “cold weather” item I put on – before long sleeves or running tights.
These basic running gloves are around ten bucks, and you can also save a few bucks with these running mittens. The nice thing about mittens is they keep your fingers together – and sometimes I find that my fingers get cold when they’re isolated in regular gloves.
But if you want to splurge on something techy, check out these rechargeable heated running gloves. They’re kind of pricey, but they will keep you warm.
Socks are another must have.
I prefer crew length, and merino wool helps keep your feet warm in the winter. Check out these merino wool blend socks.
And if you like long sleeve shirts, check out these Under Armour shirts for men and for women. I usually stick with short sleeves shirts, even in the winter, but I like to keep one or two on hand for when it’s extra cold.
One other random piece of winter gear – YakTrax. If you’re going to be running on ice, these are essential. Might as well pick them up now while they’re on sale.
Deals On Other Running Gear
While winter might be on the brain, running gear never goes out of style. You’re going to need socks, shoes, and shorts come spring time. So why not stock up now?
These Under Armor Shorts and Tech T-Shirts are both available at a decent discount. This is a good chance to get name brand gear for off-brand prices.
Feetures are some nice, fancy socks. But fancy means pricey. I didn’t see any of their crew length socks on sale for winter, but you can snag some of these ankle length socks for when the weather warms up. I can rarely bring myself to splurge on these for myself, but I got some as a gift in the past and I loved them.
And then there are shoes.
Good deals on shoes are a little harder to come by. Often, it’s based on whether or not you’re lucky enough to have the right size. If your feet are a popular size, the shoes sell out – and no deal for you.
I browsed around Amazon this morning, and I saw deals on a few New Balance models. But this is really going to be hit or miss based on what size you need. I saw the Fresh Foam Trail Shoes, the Fresh Foam 680's, and Rebel v3's among other things.
Take a minute and browse around – you might get lucky with a deal in your size.
Discounts on Home Treadmills
I know, I know. Treadmills are dreadmills.
But they’re also essential running gear. If it wasn’t for my treadmill, I wouldn’t be finishing the third year of my running streak.
Personally, I have this XTERRA treadmill down in my basement. It’s a basic workhorse that’ll get the job done without breaking the bank.
I bought mine a few years ago for a little over $300. I was surprised when I looked recently, and the same model was now closer to $500. But with the Black Friday deal, it’s back down below $400 for a while. It’s not going to get any cheaper …
If you want something a little nicer, check out this NordicTrack T series. You get a screen and automatic incline. It’s a more polished product – and it’s a little pricier. But if you can afford it, you won’t be unhappy with it.
And then there’s the Peloton Tread. These things are just downright expensive. But if you want to be part of the Peloton ecosystem, it’s the price of admission.
And for now, you can buy in for a few hundred bucks less than usual. It’s not for me … but maybe it’s for you.
Put Your Feet Up and Start Shopping
Whether you just got home from your turkey trot or you just finished up Thanksgiving Dinner, now is the time to take a look at the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals. Retailers like Amazon aren’t waiting until Monday anymore – the sales started this week.
This is just a taste of what you can find right now on Amazon. So if you’re looking for some running gear or for some gifts for runners in your life, head on over and check it out.
Of all these deals, I think the discount on the XTERRA treadmill may be the best one, right now. Yeah, you can save 20-30% on some gloves or socks. But they’re not that expensive to begin with.
You can bring home a solid treadmill for less than $400 right now, and you can set yourself up for success through the winter.
